a year agoHello everyone! I finished my radiation treatments a couple of weeks ago and my skin is scabby, cracking and peeling. It is extremely painful and although I’m using regenecare and silver cream, I haven’t gotten much relief. Anybody have any suggestions?

Radiation skin reactions can be incredibly challenging to manage, and it sounds like you're dealing with some tough symptoms right now. Many community members have found various approaches helpful for post-radiation skin care, so hopefully others will share what worked for them. Definitely keep your medical team informed about the severity of your symptoms, as they may have additional treatment options or can adjust your current care plan to provide better relief.

6 months agoCall your radiation oncologist office as soon as possible. Cracking skin makes me wonder if you need aquaphor. Sometimes people can get infections in their skin so it really would be great to call them, maybe send them a photo

6 months agoYes infection is a concern. My skin got really bad as well and for a few weeks after treatment, before it started to get better and heal. I thought it may be infected but it was not thank goodness. I used aloe Vera plant and aquaphor. I also heard cerave helps. Lots of water and a healthy diet can also aid in the healing. Let your radiologist know so she can examine you. All the best to you 💕

6 months agoI’ve had the same problems. At my oncologist’s demand I saw oncologist every week after radiation for 5 days. He always said the scar was healing I was Finished last Tuesday but I don’t need to see him again until the end of the month. I’m using a cortisone cream and a 2nd type for pain and (Not sure of the name, just know it’s for pain and scabbing at the scar.) Hope you’re feeling better, I’ll let you know if I find out something new.

6 months agoThank you all so much. I did end up seeing my radiation oncologist. It was not infected! I have been applying the silver cream three times a day and using Regencare a few times throughout the day. Ice packs have also provided some much needed relief (of course, not directly on the skin). Thankfully, the scabbing is subsiding but the needle-like pains are still there. I guess it’s just going to take time. I see them again on the 19th so if that’s still an issue then, I’ll ask about it but I think I’m on the downhill slope if this journey! Thank God!

6 months agoI used a cream called Miaderm which was referred by the radiation oncologist. U will have to order it online. I didnt have issues, just darkening of skin and I used it religiously. Good Luck.

6 months agoI was beside myself with the burning, itching, anything touching my skin. I used ice, aquaphor, neospororin with lidocaine, miaderm, eucerin, and finally decided time was the healer. But, I did everything I could to decrease the discomfort. The itching lasted several weeks after the burning stopped. I had radiation dermatitis, which turned into radiation shingles. I'm good now lol

6 months agoOh my goodness Louise!! Sounds like your experience was way worse than mine!! I’m so sorry you went through that! Or that any of us have to go through this! I’m glad you’re better! I know what you mean about the burning, itching and touch. It was way worse than any poison oak/ivy I’ve ever had. But, I too, am better now! Thank God!

6 months agoI have the dark skin, burn, and radiation dermatitis too. Trying everything to get healed. Aloe, Hydrocortisone ointment, Aquaphor. radiologist didn’t have any prescription advice, just what I’m doing and can add Neosporin.

5 months agoThey told me this can go on for weeks after your finished with radiation treatments. Aloe Vera spray was good, Aquaphor, Vaseline, and a radiation burn cream I found on Amazon.

5 months agoYes it can. After treatment followup's Dr visits I was fortunate that all I had was browning of the skin, nothing else. Radiation Dr. was amazed that was all. I used the miaderm after the treatment. Wish u speedy healing Dennie.....🙏🙏
