2 years agoHi everyone , stage 1 , Grade 3 IDC , PR negative , ER positive & HR2 negative . My Mammoprint was off the chart , Had a lumpectomy in April . Just finished 3 months of chemo , and start 33 rounds of Radiation next week . After surgeon started with oncologist- no next appointment scheduled for him ? Just said ok now on you go to radiation? So I don’t know what’s next - does anyone else feel the communication is terrible and you find out more from places like this than in the doc office ? Thanks

After completing radiation, many patients continue with hormone therapy since this treatment is typically ER positive, and follow-up appointments with the oncology team usually get scheduled to monitor progress and discuss the next phase of care. The feeling of poor communication between providers is unfortunately common - many patients find that asking specific questions about the treatment timeline and next steps during appointments helps ensure nothing gets missed, and it's completely reasonable to request clarity about the coordination between your care team members.

6 months agoYou have the same diagnosis as me! ER+ PR-. I’m waiting for my oncotype results but expect to do chemo with a grade 3, PR- tumor. I feel the same way you do. I think in some cancer centers you get to meet the whole team and consult with all of them as they put together your treatment plan, but I’ve only seen my surgeon thus far. Consult with radiation oncologist tomorrow but it feels kind of pointless since I know I’m doing chemo! Maybe call your oncologist’s office and ask about next follow up? Were you put on Tamoxifen or an AI?

6 months agoYou should have a team that had already had a plan in place for you. My team: breast surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist are in communication and they are all aware of my appointment dates . I forgot to mention my gynecologist . Everyone gets all tests results , including my Primary care physician .

6 months agoOur diagnosis is similar, but our treatment is vastly different. My Naturopath order the mammogram that came back suspicious. Then ordered the diagnostic mammogram that lead to additional tests. The tumor was deep, on my chest wall. I meet my surgeon, then an oncologist that I did not prefer so I met my second oncologist. Then I met my radiology team. All before surgery. After surgery and radiation, I chose a Naturopathic Oncologist for my team. I am not taking any meds because the side effects would impact my other health concerns. Since treatment, my surgeon and chief radiologist have both checked on my progress. Be your own advocate. Use your voice to get the care you want and deserve. Best, Laurie
