8 months agoI am 49 and premenopausal. I have stage 1 ER/PR+, HER2- IDC. I completed radiation, but could not tolerate Tamoxifen due to liver pain/elevated enzymes. Does anyone have any experience with Lupron injections to induce menopause? I start anastrazole once my hormones are suppressed enough.

Many community members have shared their experiences with Lupron injections as part of their treatment journey, and it's completely understandable to seek insights from others who have walked a similar path. Treatment transitions can feel overwhelming, especially when dealing with medication tolerability issues, so connecting with others in this community who may have similar experiences could provide valuable perspective and support.

6 months agoI’m on Lupron and anastrozole. I’m 41, started last July. The Lupron for me is no problem, I feel ok being in menopause. The anastrozole was hard to adjust to at first but I’m ok. Definitely joint/ bone pain, mild hot flashes and at first insomnia that was pretty intense but I got through it. These meds are rough, give yourself some grace ❤️ my blood counts have been off , I’m not sure if it’s from the meds… assuming but my oncologist is monitoring closely. I have labs tomorrow. I started 1/2 dose of anastrozole at first and built up. You could talk to your dr about that.

6 months agoThanks for the reply. I’ve had 2 doses of Lupron but my hormones aren’t low enough to start the anastrazole yet. Lupron has given me headaches, but that’s it so far.

6 months agoHi Michelle. Similar for me. I was 52 at diagnosis but still premenopausal. I was told that ovarian suppression with AI would be better than tamoxifen so started Lupron injections and once I didn’t cycle for a year started letrozole. The side effects of Letrozole were not that tolerable so I take it sporadically. The Lupron every 3 months doesn’t bother me. my onc says the ovarian suppression is better than nothing. My estradiol levels hover btwn 5-15.

6 months agoMichelle, my sister had her ovaries removed but I was finished with menopause so I didn't. We both had BC in 2002. She is fine, but I was diagnosed in 2016 with mBC

6 months agoI’ve heard it can take a couple months for your estrogen to be suppressed enough to start the AI. Everyone is different. It took me one dose. It took my friend (survivor I met after my diagnosis, 3months to start the AI) I think if headaches are all you’re getting from the Lupron after 2 months, you’re golden!
