3 years agoWaiting to hear from my radiation oncologist as to when to start RT. I had the simulation one week ago. I will need 5 treatments and then I go back to the medical oncologist so he can put me on ET. I’m already dreading the hot flashes and weight gain. Any thoughts? With all the medical advances you would think that these side effects could be controlled. That alone is depressing me😩

The timing between simulation and treatment start can vary, but treatment teams typically aim to begin radiation within 1-2 weeks of simulation to ensure the planning is still accurate. While waiting can feel anxious, this timeframe allows the radiation oncology team to carefully review and finalize the treatment plan for the best possible outcomes. Many patients in this community have shared helpful strategies for managing treatment side effects, and connecting with others who have similar experiences might provide valuable insights and support during this waiting period.

6 months agoHi Sue. I was just wondering how you are doing?

6 months agoIs it true that tamoxifen causes your vagina to dry out and shrink up? The thought of losing my breasts, which I love and are an extremely large part of my sexuality, is bad enough but losing my sexuality altogether? I'd rather die

6 months agoMy understanding is that an estrogen vaginal ring is safe to maintain vaginal lubrication. Check with your oncologist. As far as breasts go, I love mine too, and would hate to get a mastectomy. With that said, I also understand insurance does approve of reconstructive surgery. Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. She even underwent a nipple spring surgery. https://www.milesplasticsurgery.com/news/news-0513#:~:text=At%20the%20time%20of%20Jolie%27s,in%20place%20during%20the%20surgery

6 months agoHi Susan! I think it is important to remember that hot flashes and weight gain are potential side effects but not guaranteed! Plenty of women report doing very well on Tamoxifen and don’t experience any side effects. It’s just more common to hear about those that struggle because they are the ones speaking up. Hoping the best for you!
