2 years agoHi survivors - this is my third fight w/breast cancer. 1st time late 40’s - invasive ductal ER+/PR+, no lymph node spread. Had a mastectomy, reconstruction & tamoxifen for 5 years. 7 years later left breast indicated pre-cancer so decided on mastectomy, reconstruction & another 5 years on tamoxifen. Now at age 72 found lump under my left arm, same cancer in the lymph nodes 5 of them ranging stage 1 to 3. Doctors wanted to start me on chemotherapy but at my age elected to do the the hormone inhibitor Anastrozole to shrink stage 3 tumor to 2. Then they will do surgery, radiation & probably stay on Anastrozole as preventative. Hope the lymph node at stage 3 will shrink - checking back w/the oncologist next month. So annoyed about recurrence after so many years- - would love to hear back from older women and their experiences.

Facing a third diagnosis after so many years can feel incredibly frustrating and overwhelming, especially when you've already been through so much. Many women in this community have navigated cancer recurrences at different stages of life and understand the unique challenges that come with making treatment decisions later in life. Hopefully, other members who have walked similar paths will share their experiences and insights to help you feel less alone in this journey.
