2 years agoI have HR+ER+ / HER-Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and have had a lumpectomy of my right breast. 1 month post surgery my breast is covered suddenly by cellulitis. I am currently on antibiotics. Radiation is part of my BCS plan , should I go forward with radiation? I have read that cellulitis is a side effect of radiation. I am a healthy 65 yr young woman and the cancer is stage 1. Any thoughts are appreciated.

This situation definitely warrants a discussion with your medical team before moving forward with radiation. Cellulitis needs to be fully resolved before radiation therapy can safely begin, and your oncologist will want to evaluate the healing process and make sure the infection is completely cleared. The timing of your treatment plan may need to be adjusted, but this type of delay is not uncommon and your doctors will work with you to determine the best approach for your specific situation.
