a year agoNot understanding why they did the Oncotype DX test since I have ER+HER2- . This type of cancer has late recurrence, usually not in 1st 5 years... much later. Then why do they even think about chemo if chemo only helps with first 5 yrs in early stage cancer? Mine is Stage 1, no lymph nodes involved.

The Oncotype DX test helps doctors understand the specific characteristics of your tumor and predict how likely it is to respond to chemotherapy, even in early-stage cases like yours. This genomic test can provide valuable information beyond traditional factors like stage and hormone receptor status, helping your medical team make more personalized treatment recommendations. Have others in this community had similar questions about their Oncotype DX results and what the scores meant for their treatment plans?

7 months agoOncotype helps to look at the genes that are mutated and help determine if chemo is beneficial and it could also help some women decide if they want a full hysterectomy or mastectomy. The genes they look for in rtPCR help Dr guide their patients. It also helps to determine the chance of reoccurrence 9 years later They’ve been using it for years. Chemo doesn’t just help in the first 5 years. Hopefully it helps for the long haul but hormone therapy in ER/PR + cells is also required to keep cells from feeding off hormones. The test is not used for HER+ or Triple Neg.
