What if anything has anyone found to be helpful for relief from neuropathy?

Neuropathy is a challenging side effect that many in the breast cancer community experience, and there are several approaches that people have found helpful for managing symptoms. Some find relief through gentle exercises, physical therapy, certain medications prescribed by their oncology team, acupuncture, or supportive therapies - though what works best can vary from person to person, so it's always good to discuss options with the healthcare team to find the right combination of treatments.

Gabapentin didn’t work for me. Also on Cymbalta and Lyrica. Am going for neuropathic pain therapy twice a week now. So far nothing’s helping. It’s really bad in my hands, not as bad in my feet.

Ruth, they had me on gabapentin 300 mg 3x/day, didn’t work so we stopped.

Karen, the radiologist said to stay away from Lyrica, known for weight gain. Have you had any experience with that? I have an appointment with a neurologist in Feb.

No. I had heard that, too. But I’m on Jardiance and Mounjaro for diabetes so that probably helps. Don’t have much of an appetite.

Pyridoxine (basically vitamin B6). Helped with the bad pain in my feet but the numbness remains (7 years on). Not too bad and definitely copeable. Was on it for 3 years. A friend of mine took amytriptyline for a week or two and it stopped the pain for her. Good luck. It’s not pleasant

My nurses recommended L-Glutamine. It helped. I do a lot of sensory stuff with my hands, knitting with textured yarns, gardening, washing with textured clothes. I also find hot wax treatment like they use in spas helps temporarily. I've heard infrared treatments have helped some.

Susan, it's an amino acid. Got at vitamin/health food store. I got powder form and mixed 3 tbsp in a glass of juice. It is about 5 g per tbsp.

Wisemen Healing Balm. It’s available on Amazon. I have neuropathy from a broken back and it’s the only thing that’s shut the nerves up. Apply directly to the affected area and in about 30 minutes you’ll have relief. Also consider compression socks and compression gloves. Crazy Compression has some fun patterns.

I was offered Gabapentin that I used a short time post op double skin and nipple sparing mastectomies with saline implants when I have burning pain in my chest as nerve endings were healing. I’ve had chronic feet neuropathy from pernicious anemia that is worse at night, but I find exercises to my feet, walking, warm showers… beneficial. If I can’t sleep I take one Tylenol PM that helps me now because I was dizzy on the Neurontin.

Red light therapy through a lymphedema specialist. My neuropathy was so bad that I could barely walk at the end of most days. I can now wear almost any kind of shoe and have no problem with normal days being on my feet. My finger tips are probably 75-80% better too with feeling.

Irene I wish that I could take Tylenol Pm and that I could go to sleep. I have tried almost everything. It seems like my pain is worse at night.

Neuropathy pain is worse at bedtime. I have had that since pernicious anemia diagnosis and cancer treatments make it even worse. I’m offered Neurontin/ Gabapentin but it makes me too dizzy.

My mother had neuropathy in feet from diabetes. Gabapentin helped but made her feet swell. She switched to lyrica which helped. She also used capsaicin cream

Hi, I use tens/massage and red light therapy booties, and a vitamin my oncologist recommended called Nervive. All from Amazon with the direction of a nerve doctor. Also turmeric. The combo works well and my neuropathy improved a lot. I’m not sure how to post links but I can try.

Cymbalta 60mg taken once daily has helped me. Does not take it all away but has made it manageable. My Oncology nurse who also had neuropathy due to chemotherapy told me to wear socks at night to help with coldness and pain. It works for me.
