Has anyone refused chemotherapy after having double mastectomy? I was under the impression I only needed radiation and then oncologist dropped this bomb on me.

Treatment plans can sometimes include unexpected recommendations that feel overwhelming, especially when they differ from initial expectations. Many community members have faced similar decisions about chemotherapy after surgery, and the choice often depends on individual factors that oncologists consider. This kind of news can be a lot to process, so connecting with others who've navigated similar treatment decisions might provide helpful perspectives and support.

Make sure they all test results to back that up. Oncotype test, mRI, biopsy, etc

I had a bilateral mastectomy in April 2023 and wanted my surgeon to take both. She said there was no medical need. I didn't need any radiation or chemo, and didn't take any meds (my decision) took the genetic test, came back negative....July 2024 mammogram came back, needed a biopsy, different cancer. Another mastectomy no chemo or radiation, but I do take the meds. Everyone, please advocate your wants and needs! My family physician was pissed I didn't get the double mastectomy I asked for. I am ok. Staying flat. May you have a blessed journey and remember you got this! You are a strong, beautiful woman that gives us all strength to fight this. We are WARRIORS! love and prayers to all!

I had 2 cancer nodes show up on sentinel test and surgeon removed 21 more for a total of 23 removed. I chose “flat chest”. The outcome and prognosis sure is different for everyone! After my dbl mastectomy, I’m healing and waiting to see radiologist and to get started with radiation. How long should I expect from surgery to start of radiation?

I had double mastectomy on 5/14/24, the back in for sentinel node biopsy 6/4/24. I was originally only diagnosed with DCIS and after mastectomy they found invasive that’s why my lymph biopsy was delayed. I started radiation early last July. I believe it’s 4-6 weeks after surgery as long as you’re healing ok.
