Had anyone had radiation after reconstruction? Beacause of the surgery they are doing at first they said no radiation but now my surgeon is saying it’s a possibility and I’m scared I’m making the wrong choice for surgery in the long run

Radiation is no joke!! Just finished. Caution on doing what the drs say. Tread slowly. Research!!!

Any more advice than that? Had surgery on the 25th just got path back and they are recommending radiation. How did it go for you? I have done a ton of research but i don’t feel comfortable yet going against the recommendations. I’m only 39

I was told by my surgeon that after the mastectomy tissue expanders are used as “placeholders”. Radiation if necessary follows the mastectomy. Final reconstruction with implants won’t be done for 9-12 months after radiation to allow skin to heal.
