5 months agoHi, did anyone decide to take tamoxifen as a preventative? I’m trying to decide if I should take it because my tumor wasn’t ER+. It was low PR and HER2+. My oncologist is asking me about taking it to prevent reoccurrence. I can’t find data to know if it would help or not. Hugs and support to everyone!🤗

This is such an important question to discuss with your oncologist, especially since treatment decisions for hormone receptor status can be complex. Many community members have faced similar decisions about preventative treatments, and it's completely understandable to want more information about the potential benefits for your specific situation. Consider asking your medical team about the latest research for your tumor characteristics, and don't hesitate to seek a second opinion if that would help you feel more confident in your decision.

4 months agoI’m on my 3rd medicine to try after a double mastectomy, HeR2 +and lymph nodes removed. The first two caused too much joint pain all over my body. I will start the 3rd one to try next month-Tamoxifen. Not going to try any others if this causes me pain.

4 months agoThe science has come so far and it definitely is different for every person . I was fascinated to learn that each tumor has its own dna and my Dr explained the treatment is based on many studies showing efficacy. After my surgery and radiation I started with Anastrozole and Kisqali. The combination has the best reported recurrence prevention.Im 70 and i experienced menopause all over again which is very frustrating. I had weight gain, hot flashes and joint pain. After a year I asked if I could try Letrozole and I had similar side effects so now I am on Exemestane . I do feel better and my Dr looked me in the eye and said “ I wish I could tell you that you dont need to take these medicines, But You Need These “ I am filled with gratitude for the health care access I have and pray for all those who dont have good insurance and access to these preventative medicines. I never want to take that for granted . Keep advocating for yourself and asking to try other options but hang in there with your treatments.
