Should I do chemo for stage one triple positive breast cancer without lymph node...

I have stage one triple positive IDC with no lymph nodes involved (thank you God!). My oncologist is recommending chemo but I had a mastectomy and they said they got all the cancer so that doesn’t seem right to me. Has anyone else with triple positive cancer and no lymph nodes been told to do chemo?

This is such a common question in the triple positive community, and it's completely understandable to wonder about chemotherapy recommendations when surgery appears to have been successful. Many patients with similar diagnoses have shared experiences about receiving chemotherapy recommendations even with early-stage disease and clear margins. Consider discussing the specific reasoning behind the recommendation with your oncology team, and know that other community members here have navigated these same treatment decisions and may share their experiences.

Yes, this is the standard recommendation . HER2 can be aggressive and just because your nodes don’t have cancer in them isn’t 100% guarantee that none have escaped.

Cancer grade, lymphovascular involvement, and high Ki-67 would be other reasons that chemo may be recommended to get any cancer cells in blood stream, too.

Mine was the same diagnosis, same surgical outcome. And they recommends chemo for me too. It was my understanding that one of my tumors although triple positive was a lower number to the point of looking more like triple negative. With the aggressive nature of the cells they strongly pressed for chemo. I went ahead & completed weekly taxol for 12 weeks. It wasn’t what I wanted but in the long run, I know I can say I did everything I could with the information we had. It’s not an easy decision to make but happy to be here if you have more questions or need encouragement on the journey 💜
