Have anyone had their Ki67 levels tested? If yes, what was your score and treatment plan

Ki67 testing is a common part of breast cancer diagnosis that helps doctors understand how quickly cancer cells are growing. Many community members have shared their experiences with Ki67 scores, which can vary widely depending on individual circumstances. Connecting with others who've been through similar testing can provide valuable insights and support during treatment planning.

Mine was tested after the repeat biopsy. 85%. Horribly high. TNBC often has higher score- so my Dr told me. My treatment after the mastectomy was TC chemo. Now I’m getting Zometa. Luckily they caught the tumor early.

Louise, Do you have TNBC? I too have a high score, and am concerned about the higher odds of recurrence

Yes. The interview on this App with Dr Traina (MSK) on TNBC is really good. I recommend it highly. I have TNBC and the worry of reoccurrence is ever present, my Nottingham score is also 9-the worst. It scares me witless and without low dosage melatonin and my Gyrotonic exercise, I lie awake at night my mind driving me crazy. On the positive side I have a great ‘roll model/listener’ in my cousin of identical age, who is 19years 🍀stage IV BC survivor (Estrogen +ve). Her biggest advice was not to let BC stop me from doing what I wanted to do. It’s so hard, but seriously the best advice I’ve had. So after my first Chemo my husband drove me directly from the hospital 4 hours to my son’s engagement weekend. I forbade everyone to change any plans for me. Every Chemo session became a wedding planning session with my daughter who was getting married just a week after my last chemo session. The drs were great and made each chemo a day or two earlier, so in the end I had just over 2 weeks to ‘recover’ before the actual wedding and they gave me extra steroids so I danced the whole evening. I don’t remember much about the weeks afterwards except sleeping. But pushing myself motivated me to get back to as normal as possible. Don’t get me wrong I’m still scared. Did you have to have radiation as well? I managed to avoid that with the mastectomy. Are you receiving any other treatments? I’m taking Zometa every 6 months and joined this App to see if there’s anything else I should do.

I've never heard of that level. Can you tell what it's used for in breast cancer?

The Ki67 test determines the proliferation of cancer cells. The higher the score the risk increases the possibility of metastasis

My very basic understanding from googling everything that was on my biopsy results- Nottingham Score is the grading of the cancer cells. 1-3 for each of the 3 characteristics they look at. So total of 3 is best, 9 is worst. The characteristics are the variation from normal of the structure of the cells, the nuclei as well as the number of cells dividing/growing. Hope that helps, but do check yourself as I’m not technical at all. The Ki67 is interesting but it still confuses me. My friend with BC in Eire said they use it for prognosis. My Dr in NY never mentioned it at all until I asked him and didn’t think it was relevant in prognosis once the tumors are removed. He did say mine was expected to be high as are most with TNBC. This App has apparently info on Ki67, though I’m still finding my way around it.

Katherine My endocrinologist was happy to pass the bone treatment over to my oncologist who put me on Zometa which is apparently better to help stop mets going to the bone. I’d be interested to know which one you are recommended. Everything that minimizes MBC is worth considering. I’m also stage 1B. My first tumor was found by accident during a breast exam by my gyny. It was invasive and TN but under 1cm. My surgeon suggested I have a lumpectomy, though my heart said just get rid of the breast. He requested an MRI for the surgery whereupon they found a second tumor 4cm x 3cm that couldn’t be seen on Sonogram or mammogram or felt. That was also TN but in-situ. Hence I ended up with a mastectomy. As I am an A cup, that tumor was practically my whole breast. I’m so lucky that didn’t also become invasive.
