Coping with Breast Cancer Treatment Side Effects

I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. I had lumpectomy with clear margins. My oncatype results was 35. I started TC chemo and have had 1 of 4 treatments 3 weeks apart. After I finish those I will have 15 radiation treatments. I did genetic testing and the MITF gene which is risk for melanoma was my only abnormality. Any suggestions on dealing with side effects of chemo. I was very nauseous and in so much pain. My Dr ordered phenergan and zofran which helped.

Managing chemo side effects can be really challenging, and it sounds like you're already working well with your medical team to find relief with anti-nausea medications. Many people in this community have found that staying ahead of nausea by taking prescribed medications on schedule, eating small frequent meals, staying hydrated, and getting gentle movement when possible can help with both nausea and pain management during treatment.

How long after your treatment did you get nausea and pain? I received my first round of TC two days ago and I only have minor nausea and pain. I'm worried though it will get worst. Have you tried a warm bath or maybe warm compressions for bone pain? With the nausea, I try to relax and I have been eating light meals throughout the day.

Hello, I just completed my first TC 10 days ago. My doctor didn’t prepare me for the worst pain that followed which started on 3rd day. They said it was from the injection I got the day after treatment. It was supposed to boost my WBC. After the fact and me suffering for days, I was told to “Take Claritin daily for 5 days on your next tx”. In this case, it’s supposed to help with pain. No hair loss yet, 🙏

My worst pain aIso started around day 3. I had a constant headache. I take Claritin every day anyway. My hair is coming out now. I cut my hair because it was falling out so much. I’ve tried a couple wigs but nothing seems to look right. I crochet and have made a bunch of hats.
