a year agoYesterday I had my first ultra Hypofractionated radiation therapy session. I’ve opted for this, which is five days at higher doses. Research has shown it to be just as effective as the longer versions. While it’s been used in Canada for several years, I’m the first one at my local hospital (Dartmouth-Hitchcock in NH), and even Dana Farber in Boston is just beginning to offer it. I met the requirements- over 60, early stage breast cancer. So a friend called me a pioneer! And I’ve chosen to not do hormone suppression therapy. I feel a bit radical, but also comfortable with my decision. Got confirmation/second opinion from the medical oncologist at Dana Farber.

What an incredible milestone to reach your first session! Being among the first to receive this advanced treatment approach speaks to both the cutting-edge care available and the thoughtful research behind your treatment plan. It sounds like you've put considerable effort into exploring your options and getting expert input to feel confident in your path forward. Many others in similar situations will likely benefit from hearing about your experience with this newer radiation approach.
