How do I cope when doctor says I have 6 months to live?

Receiving this kind of news is overwhelming and feeling scared is completely natural. Hi Kevin I’m in treatment also. Diagnosed with stage 4 a year and a half ago. My doctor has never given me a timeline. There are a lot of treatments and trials and surgeries you can do. I’m sending you positive thoughts.

Mine hasn't given me a timeline either which I think is better. We all react to the treatments differently, our bodies change and my personal feeling is by giving a specific timeline, it can have a very negative outcome, but that's just my feelings on the topic. Best of luck, try to stay strong and think positive.

You can get a second opinion. Sounds like you need a more encouraging doctor, just saying.

@deb rabourn I have a very negative oncologist, had dragged his feet on everything at my expense. My surgical oncologist is putting on a referral for me to see an oncologist with his university based facility.

@rochelle odell I finally decided my primary care Doctor is more supportive about how to live with the side effects and listens to me. She said she would see me every 3 months to keep an eye on me. My oncologist is good at what he does.

I was told 6 months without chemo, maybe 2 years with chemo. I’m taking chemo…for 3 years now. It’s rough but I spend an afternoon with my grandchildren and it’s worth it to me. 🙏🏻
