Can't tolerate chemo side effects - is it okay to stop treatment?

Hi All, I’m a newby here. Was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020, had chemo to shrink tumors, then surgery to remove 1/3 ascending colon, was cancer free for 4 years, just recently diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer of the lungs. The side effects of my original chemo were unpleasant but tolerable. Having NEVER been ill before, I was inept at self advocacy and still struggle with navigating medical treatment that makes the paying client work so damn hard at getting information, advice, and guidance. So now I am starting round 2 with chemotherapy and oral Braftovi. The side effects are torturous. I cannot continue. Is there anyone out there having side effects that are so severe that they are contemplating quitting treatment?

How do you cope with anxiety waiting for CT scan results after incomplete chemo?

I had a cancerous poylop removed in the fall About 4 months ago. I had chemo radiation. One bag of chemo in the beginning in one round of chemo bag at the end, which was about six weeks period. I had six rounds of radiation to finish up and I just couldn’t do it.. The pain was so bad, and the diarrhea and all the side effects were just so awful. I told them I would decide if I was gonna finish the treatment after I had a CT scan. And saw my surgeon before I made a decision. The CT scan is on the 22nd of this month and the surgeon to see her is the following week. I’m starting to get a little nervous now. I’m praying that cancer is gone.. I guess that’s not unusual to feel that way. I feel really good. Have a lot of my energy back back at work. I forgot to mention I’m 74.. The Lord has watched over me for sure. Just opened your thoughts anyone who has been through something similar.

How do I cope with stage 4 colorectal cancer and non-healing wounds?

My crc diagnosis started stage 3 crc . I was misdiagnosed first as bleeding hemorrhoids for 8 months , ( 3 dr visits and urgent care) by Kaiser Permanente . Started symptoms July 2018 until March 2019 and finally recommended for colonoscopy then they found out I have stage 3 cancer . Had gone all the 3 treatments : radiation , chemo then surgery where started my bag . Unfortunately despite all the 3 treatments the cancer still there . So we get a second opinion from UCLA then started all the 3 treatments as well until I got another bag . All my waste products goes to these bags . So I’m all artificial in my waste products . Unfortunately my Pooh bag leaked and I have to go another surgery for creating another bag coz that Pooh bag was not working well . Now I have digestion issues where I am having high output waste issues . Absorption of foods is dysfunction . Then I’m losing wts even though I eat good . That’s my additional issues now . They put me in Palliative care and on treatments every 21 days for targeted chemo hers2 . I’m skinny but still feeling good and positive . But with pain due to my rectum non healing wound where the cancer started was a solid tumor . Idk I guess it can’t be removed . ? It worsen now that’s why I can’t hardly walk due to the rectal non healing wound . And another issue came up that there was a bony lesion in my groin area and they said it metastasized that’s why I feel pain there too. So I will be having a radiation treatments to that area by next week on top of my targeted chemo . I pray to God that I can still cope up with all the treatments that I will undergo . I’m a fighter , was an athletic before joining all the marathons , cycling, biking and so forth and living a healthy life but still got this awful cancer . 🙏Do you still I can still make it ? Do you know any treatments that can heal no healing wound due to rectal cancer ? I appreciate if you reply . Thanks 😊

Is bleeding during bowel movements normal when starting chemo again?

Second time with corectal colon cancer stage 4. I started bleeding when going to the barhroom. 1 day this has happened. Hurts when I go to the bathroom. Starters chemo infusion again. Any advice.

Why didn't my oncologist recommend radiation for my stage 4 colon cancer?

Hi.I have stage 4 colon cancer I did a years worth of of iv chemo where I carried that bag around.It spread from my colon to my ovaries. Mt first surgery I had part of my colon removed lymph noids.Then I had a second surgery had a hysterectomy. Now it's in my liver I have been on a chemo pill for 7 mths and it has stop my cancer from growing.But when I first found out I had colon cancer I ask about radiation and my oncologist said we dt do that with your type of cancer.But I am seeing people on here having radiation with colon cancer so now I am confused and wondering why my oncologist told me that.

What does palliative treatment mean and how do you cope with the uncertainty?

I don't know what I can contribute. So far, I have had symptoms show up 1 at a time, then recede. The 1 exception has been serial dysfunction. I after reading some of these posts,I guess I can call myself lucky. My doctor tells me the treatment plan is palliative. I feel the sword of Damocles is sitting over me.

Anyone else having GI problems with chemo pump and radiation combo?

I am using the chemo pump along with radiation. Tomorrow is my 4th day of treatment of radiation and I have till Friday till I stop the pump for the weekend until Monday. No nausea or stomach upset just pain from the radiation. Is anyone else using this combination. Also having problems getting my GI system regulated. One doc says use this another says use this. They have already had my electrolytes messed up once to where I had to go to the hospital to get fluids. Lynsezz is crazy expensive so they have me on a cheaper pill I take twice a day. Then they say take two dulcolax and drink Mirilax twice a day. I think that is too many laxatives. I’m trying colace on my own and still having problems. Anyone else having problems getting your GI system regulated?
