My First Day of Chemo: Better Than Expected

Today I was the big day, I had my first round of chemo, it went better than expected. After talking to people, and reading what some of you have gone I was expecting the worst, but right now that only side effect I’ve had is hot flashes. But I’ll take that. So now I understand every one goes through treatment different, we are all unique and not all of us going to go through the same symptoms, so my advice is be prepared for the worst and expect the best. GOD BLESS

What a positive way to start this journey - your attitude of being prepared for challenges while hoping for the best is truly inspiring. Many people in this community will appreciate hearing that first treatments can sometimes go more smoothly than anticipated, and your reminder that everyone's experience is unique is so valuable for others who may be feeling anxious about their upcoming treatments.

Hi Salvador! Thank you for sharing this encouragement with others on here. We can all be guilty of making things out to be worse in our heads than what we actually experience. Sorry you are feeling 🥵 but I’m praying that continues to be the worst of it for you! We are so happy you are here and I hope you keep sharing as you move along with treatment and recovery. 💛Suzanne (Community Moderator)

I'm on FOLFOX as well. No hot flashes, but big fatigue. I took a break from chemo to have colorectal surgery, which went well (thank goodness). I'll be resuming the next 6 cycles of chemo in about a week, and then surgery #2 is planned -- to address the metastasis in my liver. Hepatic Artery Infusion Pump - to deliver a higher dose of chemo directly to my liver, as opposed to more systemic. That's keeping me up nights, and my head is spinning! Oy!
