Should I wait for my next PSA test or see the oncology team now?

This is such an understandable dilemma after receiving those first post-surgery results. Many patients in this community face similar decisions about timing additional consultations versus waiting for follow-up tests. While only the medical team can provide guidance specific to the situation, connecting with other community members who have navigated similar crossroads might offer valuable perspectives on how they approached these important timing decisions.

It wouldn't hurt to get the opinion of the radiation and hormone doctors. You can always say no to further treatments if your PSA is undetectable in August.

Dear Oscar — I wish I could get access to a multidisciplinary team! In my 3 years since diagnosis and 2 years since treatment I have accumulated 23 negative side effects of EBRT and ADT. I have also accumulated 7 specialist physicians (with an 8th scheduled but not yet seen). Not one of these doctors has helped eliminate or even lessen any of my 23 afflictions. Each operates in his/her own specialty without any regard for or interest in anything the other doctors have done or suggested. And if you succeed in getting such a meeting, please do a followup post to report what was decided; maybe a suggestion or two by them could help me.

I had a radical prostatectomy in September of 2023 with a Gleason score of 5+4 which spread to the nerves on both sides. I was also undetectable for 9 months then my PSA started to rise. So I had 40 radiation treatments along with 6 months of Eligard (Lupron) ADT. Again I was undetectable from early 2025 until early 1016 when my PSA started rising again. This time I had a spot on one of my vertebrae. So I am now on Abiraterone and prednisone along with Eligard. Since cancer was found in a lymph node you would be wise to do what your urologist recommends because there is a good chance there are cancer cells floating around and won’t be detectable unless they attach somewhere else in your body and then stats to grow. That is what happened to me. I hope this helps!
