What should I expect when nodules grow during treatment pause?

I was diagnosed with a tumor on my kidney in April 2024. My right kidney was removed and showed no signs of cancer outside the kidney. I December 2024 a CT scan discovered multiple nodules on my lungs. Too small to biopsy so I began treatment with Keytruda and Lenvima oral medication. Due to extreme side effects I was put on a treatment pause in July 2025. At that time the only remaining nodules was 6mm. A CT scan done October 15th showed an increase in the size of the nodules to 1.1 x1.0 cm. I meet with my oncologist next week and hoping that it is not as bad as I think.

Waiting for an oncologist visit after a scan can feel heavy, and wanting clear answers about lung nodule changes during a treatment pause in kidney cancer is completely understandable. What comes next is different for each person, so the care team is the best source for what the scan means and which options may be discussed. Many people find it helpful to write down questions before the appointment, including questions about next steps and managing side effects. Others in this community may also be willing to share how they prepared for similar visits, and this is a supportive space to come back to afterward.

I hope they can find another treatment for you, and catch it when it's small.

Thank you Travis. I started back on treatment today and will continue to have quarterly scans.

That's great! I have a scan coming up November 19th. Last time I had been off Cabometyx while healing from back surgeries, and the kidney tumor had grown. Hoping to reverse that now that I am healed and back on all treatments.

Have you talked to Oncologist about radiation treatment? I have had it twice for lung nodules. I had it the first time almost four years ago and little to no immediate side effects.

My oncologist talked about radiation which is on the table but he wants me to continue treatment until my next scan and then make a decision on radiation then. Thank you for your message. I hope you are doing well.
