Communities›In Treatment For Renal Cell (Kidney) Cancer›I was diagnosed with Stage 4 RCC with mets to the liver and right lower lobe lung, in Oct of 2023. I've been on 5/6 different treatments. The first was Opdivo and a pill, worked really well for close to a year and then just stopped. I have been on four different medications, all gave me major issues. Then my oncologist decided to go into research and then switched me to Dr Reddy. One of the last things he commented on was how there was nothing for him to treat me with and that was because he didn't think I would still be alive. That was really hard to hear, left me speechless and he said I was free to go, and walked out. My current oncologist is much more friendly and concerned for me. I am currently on Votrient that isn't giving me hardly any issues. I will be getting new scans in the next couple of weeks and hopefully things will be better.

What a difficult journey this has been, especially dealing with that insensitive comment from the previous oncologist. It sounds incredibly challenging to navigate multiple treatment changes while managing the emotional weight of such an experience. Having a caring, supportive medical team makes such a difference in cancer treatment, and it's encouraging to hear that the current oncologist is more compassionate and that Votrient is being better tolerated. Wishing for positive results on those upcoming scans, and hoping others in this community can share their experiences with treatment transitions and finding the right care team.
