Is it normal to wait for breast cancer treatment after diagnosis?

Hi. I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer on October 13, I met with the doctor on October 17. I had blood tests done, x-ray, and ekg done on October 17 and sent home to wait. I've gotten the results of the tests back, but don't know what they mean. I haven't heard from the doctor. It seems like so much time has passed and I'm just in limbo, is this usual?

Waiting periods after a breast cancer diagnosis can feel incredibly stressful, and those feelings are completely understandable. Many patients do experience waiting times between diagnosis and treatment as doctors coordinate care plans and review test results, though the timeline can vary based on individual circumstances. It might help to call the doctor's office to ask about next steps and when you can expect to hear back about your results and treatment plan - you have every right to stay informed about your care timeline.

It was for me. If you haven't heard from them I would call. I hate it when you get results before being able to sit with a medical person that can explain everything to me. Hope you got your answers or get them soon. Waiting is awful. I feel for you.

Deborah O. It's so difficult to say because it's so different for everyone. But I've read a lot on this site and some women have had months before they get their surgery. If you have other treatment doctors you could possibly reach out to them and ask. Do you know what your Ki67 is? I think that ( along with other tests) tell a lot about your cancer ( like growth rate). Mine was low. I got radiation first, then letrozole, then wait 8 months for a . lumpectomy ( but I am in a study so my case is much different). But overall it didn't seem to be too long BUT waiting IS so tough. I would reach out to your doctor(s) and ask them that question. You need reassurance from them ( or at least I would want it if it was me).

Deborah O. Did you get a biopsy done? That would tell you your Ki67 number and give you some clarity. But regardless of the number December 29 will get here sooner than you think ( I know but not soon enough!). I have to wait at least 8 months for my lumpectomy ( it's the study thing).

Melani. Ooh ok yes mine is taking that long ooh you literally helped me. This is frustrating. Because I really don't have anyone to talk to . I have son's. But I don't want to worry them . I go to my sister. She tries a lot. Bless her heart. But being able to talk to someone who is going through the same thing is so helpful and gives more of an understanding. ❤️ . I was diagnosed on September 11th, having surgery on December 29th ooh get genetic results just day's before surgery

What the doctor said is I'm her 2 positive stage 2 then he said it could go stage one I'm right in the middle. I don't know ki67 what does that mean and thanks I will right that down . My latest oncology appointment he said the cancer was the size of a quarter. That's all . Since no result have got to my oncology dr yet. The appointment keeps getting postpone. Oh the genetic blood results. Now my appointment is after my surgery. January 4th. All I'm doing is taking letrozole.

Deborah O. Have you had a biopsy? That will tell you your type of cancer. HER2+ is part of that. The biopsy should also tell you your progesterone and estrogen numbers, your KI67, and your p53 (? I think it is called P53, I haven't looked at my biopsy results in awhile). I don't know what test gets then the size of your tumor, maybe from your mammogram or ultrasound? Your doctor should give the size specefics like in mm or cm. For example mine was 1.6 cm at diagnosis ( 1.6 centimeters). I think it grexto 2.0 cmbu the time of my radiation.

Yep Use your time to re-search Alternative non-aggressive surgery. Find a good functional and integrative oncologist please and don’t make any hasty decisions. First thing they’re gonna tell you is to take your breast off. Tell them no always get a second may be a third opinion from a different source different hospital.

It seems like an eternity to wait for tests. I am having surgery on March 18 and was diagnosed with triple negative stage 1. My MRI results are still not back and the oncologist won’t see me until April 9th. I just feel like if it’s as aggressive it will get worse, but there’s nothing I can do but wait

Has anyone with triple negative breast cancer stage 1 had surgery and then refused chemotherapy. It just want radiation. I so frightened of chemo because I had open heart surgery a few years ago and I’ve read that it can damage your heart
