Seeking a second opinion is a very personal choice that many people find helpful when navigating a new diagnosis. Having that extra perspective can provide confidence in your treatment plan and help you feel more informed about your options. The good news about your MRI results showing no lymph node involvement is encouraging. Consider discussing with your medical team what questions you'd most like answered and whether a second opinion might help address those concerns. Many others in this community have faced similar decisions and would likely share their experiences if you'd like to hear from them.

6 months agoI didn’t have an MRI, but my first stop was the surgeon. Had lumpectomy 6/12. Met oncologist 7/3. Have a few more tests/labs, etc to do before starting chemo, presumably in august. Starting with surgeon seemed backward to me too but it seems to be the way it works. I guess the plan is Get it out of you asap and then deal with the rest. And yes, I also felt lost and confused; I think this is typical because it’s handled differently than any other health thing I’ve encountered (luckily been pretty healthy). So i completely understand your stress but I think this is the way it goes. Since I met the surgeon, i will say it seems to be more as I expected. I wish you some luck, lots of calm and excellent outcomes.

6 months agoMichelle, not to be a downer but my MRI also showed no lymph node involvement. My surgeon cautioned me that she will go by the pathology results, not the MRI results when she determines if lymph nodes are clear. I’m holding my breath as I have my DMX scheduled for august and hopefully clean nodes will mean no radiation. I would also seek an opinion from an oncologist as you have ILC. Treatment protocols may vary with ILC vs IDC.
