3 years agoMy doctor said it looks like I have DCIS but we won’t know until after surgery. Has anyone had their diagnosis stage change after surgery?
Accepted Answer
It's completely normal for pathology results after surgery to provide more detailed information than initial imaging or biopsies can show. Many community members have shared similar experiences where their final diagnosis was refined once the surgical specimen could be thoroughly examined. This waiting period can feel incredibly stressful, but the surgical pathology will give your medical team the most accurate picture to guide your treatment plan. You're not alone in this uncertainty - others here understand exactly what you're going through right now.

6 months agoYes! I was told I “only” had ADH (a step down from DCIS) but after surgery we learned I had a 1.5CM invasive tumor. My surgeon said she was shocked but I have heard of this happening to a lot of women so I don’t think it is uncommon.

6 months agoYes, DCIS was my original diagnosis. Had lumpectomy and pathology showed a 2mm mucinous invasive carcinoma. Whent back in a month later for Sentinel lymph node removal/biopsies. Waiting on pathology and Oncotype to stage. I'm on day 7 of waiting and I'm a nervous wreck!! All this was caught on my first baseline mammogram @ age 45. I wish you all the luck!!
