8 months agoNewly diagnosed with high grade DCIS. Consult with surgeon last Thursday. I am not a candidate for radiation or reconstruction due to ANCA MPA Vascilitis diagnosed May 2009. Was diagnosed Feb 2024 Sjogrens and Lupus SLE. Finally all 3 controlled and requested mammo. I turned 54 in February and hadn't had one due to the treatments of the other autoimmune issues. Still awaiting gene test but total mastectomy planned April 21. My mother died at 57 from complications from breast cancer after recoeving a bone marrow treatment at MD Anderson, Houston. She fought quite the battle and two weeks after the 5 year mark she was admitted in the hospital and they said she would never leave. It had spread to her lungs. Four weeks later she died a horrific death. I'm a mess. Is there any other options?

Facing a cancer diagnosis while managing multiple autoimmune conditions presents unique challenges, and it's completely understandable to feel overwhelmed right now. While treatment options can feel limited when certain therapies aren't suitable due to other health conditions, oncology teams are experienced in creating individualized treatment plans that work within these constraints. Many community members here have navigated similar situations where standard treatment protocols needed adjustment, and connecting with others who understand these complex medical circumstances can provide valuable perspective and emotional support during this difficult time.
