8 months agoAnyone with multifocal DCIS and IDC? Were you offered lumpectomy? If so, more than one lumpectomy or very large lumpectomy and how big? Thanks.

This is a really important question about treatment options for multifocal DCIS and IDC. Many community members have navigated similar decisions about lumpectomy procedures, and experiences can vary quite a bit depending on factors like tumor size, location, and individual circumstances. Hopefully some members who have been through this will share their experiences with different surgical approaches to help give you a better sense of what options might be available.

6 months agoNot sure what DCIS and IDC are. I was diagnosed ductal carcinoma, hormone positive. Had a large lumpectomy. That got infected after surgery, had to go in for more tissue removaland landed me in the hospital. The initial tumor was small but ultimately got bigger because of the infection. Followed up with 5 radiology treatments. Next week, I will go for a mamogram to check things out

6 months agoThanks Kathryn. Sorry to hear about the infection. Do you know how big your lumpectomy was in centimeters or inches? DCIS is ductal carcinoma in situ. IDC is what you had invasive ductal carcinoma. Good luck with the mammogram!

6 months agoThanks for your reply. Yup, that's what I've had. The initial tumor was about 1.5 cm. Not sure of what size the additional infected tissue was. In addition I have endometrial cancer resulting in a complete hysterectomy. Endometrial cancer is spreading and I'm taking keytruda for that.

6 months agoI have muticentric idc, ilc and lcis. Mine are about a 1/2 cm each in size, but are 8 cm away from eachother. My dr told me having two lumpectomies would leave me very disfigured and since my breasts created cancer not one but twice, she advised a mastectomy.

6 months agoWendy L. My ILC is 2.3cm, which is considered small. Yours is quite small. Its location is important. Mine is behind the nipple which creates an issue. They advise a masectomy for me which I will not do, at least not here were they know nothing about how to perform an oncoplasty. Ask your doctor about that surgery.
