First off I just wanted to say Thank You for letting me join the group. I had a PET/CT scan on November 28, 2022 and they saw an irregular mass in upper left lobe. Metabolic S.U.V activity was 7.5 Then I was diagnosed Dec 22, 2022 with invasive lobudular carcenoma which was already in at least one lymph node. January 4, 2023 they did a VATS and couldn't reach the mass so they then decided to do an s/p thoracotomy. Turns out mass was just inflammation. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation? Also could the breast cancer have spread faster because of the thoracotomy?

Thank you for sharing your experience with the community. Many people have faced unexpected findings during their cancer journey, including situations where imaging shows concerning areas that turn out to be inflammation rather than cancer spread. The relief of discovering inflammation instead of metastasis is something others here may relate to, though each person's path is unique. Regarding concerns about procedures affecting cancer progression, this is definitely something to discuss with your oncology team who knows your specific case and can address your worries based on your individual medical situation. The community here understands the anxiety that comes with these uncertainties, and hopefully others will share their experiences to help you feel less alone in this process.

Hi Indra! Glad you are here. I’m right at the beginning of all this too. Because of a horrible cough and chest pain when they found my breast cancer I had scans too. They found nodules on my lungs and I can’t remember exactly what my PET SUV was but it was high and suggestive of metastatic disease. After biopsy turned out to be an inflammatory thing snd not cancer. No idea about the thoracotomy but it doesn’t seem like that would cause your breast cancer to spread! I certainly understand the anxiety though!
