Surgery Before Chemo for TNBC: Is This Typical?

Hey all. I was diagnosed with TNBC about 3 weeks ago. I have some questions about the treatments my drs are recommending. First of all I’m being told I’m going to have surgery before chemo. I’m concerned about that because literally every woman in my hospital’s support group with TNBC did chemo first. Anyone here with TNBC do surgery first? If so do you understand why?

Treatment timing can vary significantly between patients, even with the same diagnosis, because doctors consider many individual factors like tumor size, location, and overall health when creating treatment plans. While it's completely natural to compare experiences with others in your support group, each person's journey is unique and what works best can differ from case to case. Consider discussing your specific treatment sequence with your medical team to better understand the reasoning behind their recommendations for your particular situation.

I’m thoroughly surprised that they want you to do surgery first because they are making me do six months of chemotherapy before my surgery. If I were you I would look for a second opinion.

Did you ask why they want to do surgery first? Maybe your tumor is small enough that they believe surgery will be easy enough to remove it all? But definitely get a 2nd opinion if you're not comfortable with their answer.

I had surgery first due to the small size of tumor.
