Hello! 40 years old, diagnosed 7/12, Estrogen+, Progesterone+, HER-, two abnormal lymph nodes. I am waiting for a call any day with the date of my double skin sparing mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy, tissue expanders will be placed, then a treatment plan once I know the results of lymph nodes and tumor oncotype. I am looking for advice post mastectomy as far as bras, pillows, icepacks, etc....links and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for reaching out to the community during this important time in your treatment journey. Many members have shared helpful suggestions for post-mastectomy comfort items including front-closure bras without underwire, wedge pillows for sleeping upright, soft ice packs that can conform to your body, and button-up shirts for easier dressing. The community here has wonderful experience with recovery tips, so hopefully others will chime in with their specific product recommendations and links to help you prepare.

Hi Dawn- I just had a double nipple sparking mastectomy two weeks ago. I’m posting a few of my favorite items here for you. There’s a lot out there but I have found these to be most useful.

They also had me in the Carefix ‘Mary’ bra when I woke up. I ended up buying a few more of them. Target has the best button down pajamas that are not too expensive. I love the silky ones that let you ‘slide’ off the couch easier.

You’ll also want a very gentle body wash for the shower. I bought one by Vanicream that’s great. They told me no ice packs.
