Feeling overwhelmed after breast cancer diagnosis - how to cope?

I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a partial mastectomy on 2/13. I have IDC, -HER2. I try not to think about the cancer, but I am really scared and just don’t know what to do. I feel like I am being pushed from one person with needles to another. Things aren’t really explained and I feel out of control. I ask a million questions and I only get partial answers. Plus the overwhelming amount of bills that I have to pay out of pocket. That’s a great word to describe how I feel, overwhelmed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Feeling overwhelmed after a cancer diagnosis is incredibly common, and it's completely understandable to feel scared when navigating so many appointments, procedures, and financial concerns all at once. Many patients find it helpful to bring a trusted friend or family member to appointments to help ask questions and take notes, create a written list of questions before each visit, and consider reaching out to patient advocates at the treatment center who can help explain procedures and connect you with financial assistance programs.

Hi, Christie, there should be a nurse navigator that helps you coordinate and get you the assistance that you need. If you are not getting your questions answered, you should look for another doctor/treatment center that takes the time to answer your questions.
