a year agoNewly diagnosed dcis with extensive area 14cm. How do you decided between lumpectomy or mastectomy?
Accepted Answer
This is such a challenging decision to face, especially with a new diagnosis. The choice between lumpectomy and mastectomy for extensive DCIS involves many factors that the medical team will help evaluate, including the size and location of the area, breast size, and personal preferences about reconstruction and follow-up care. Having open conversations with the surgical team about all options, potential outcomes, and what feels right can help guide this important decision. Many others in this community have navigated similar choices and may share their experiences about the decision-making process.

6 months agoI too had an extensive area of tumor and suspicious cells. My surgeon told me that she could not obtain an esthetic look and clear margins with just a lumpectomy. I’m 2 weeks out from a double mastectomy and am happy to have that decision behind me.
