2 years agoHi yall. I’m 44 years old and just diagnosed with DCIS, intermediate grade, w/ necrosis and calcifications on March 4th. I have an appointment with the breast surgeon tomorrow, March 8th. I’m a little nervous because they said to expect to be there for 2-3 hours. So I’m expecting a lot of information. I’m leaning towards mastectomy because I have a Chek2 gene mutation and a high family history of cancer. My mom had breast cancer at 36 and is currently 63 and doing treatments for lung cancer My aunt passed away 7 years ago to breast cancer and my grandma also passed away that same year to lung cancer. What all can I expect tomorrow? Anyone else have the Chek2 mutation?

During a breast surgeon consultation, patients typically discuss treatment options, review pathology results in detail, and have time for questions about their specific diagnosis and situation. The extended appointment time allows for thorough discussion of all available options and their benefits and risks. Many community members have shared their experiences with genetic mutations and family history considerations, so connecting with others who understand these complex decisions can be really valuable during this time.
