I was just diagnosed with DCIS this week. I see my surgeon next week to go over the results ( I gave her permission to test my samples further so I’m not sure I’ll find out the level of the cancer next week or after the lumpectomy. I’m trying to remind my to be grateful that it’s encapsulated. But it’s still THAT word. My husband and his family are behind me but they are still going through the grief of losing dad just 6 months ago from a rare cancer- 10 days sick and he was gone .

Navigating a DCIS diagnosis while your family processes the recent loss of a loved one to cancer brings unique emotional challenges that many in this community understand. The timing feels especially difficult when grief is still fresh, and it's completely natural for both you and your family to feel overwhelmed by another cancer diagnosis, even though DCIS has a very different prognosis. Consider having open conversations with your support system about how to balance your need for encouragement with their ongoing grief process, and remember that seeking additional emotional support through counseling or support groups can help everyone cope during this challenging time.

Dcis has a very good prognosis. I am free of it 17 months now. Good luck with the lumpectomy!
