10 months ago10 months after lumpectomy, left breast. I’m still having needle sharp pains through my nipple and left side of breast. Anyone else?
Accepted Answer
Post-surgical breast pain can persist for months as nerves heal and scar tissue forms, though experiences vary widely among patients. Many community members have shared similar concerns about ongoing discomfort after lumpectomy, so connecting with others here and discussing these symptoms with your medical team can provide both reassurance and guidance for managing any persistent pain.

6 months agoMy surgeon told me fluid will fill up the space where the tissue was. As your body absorbs fluid it can cause those pains.

6 months agoHad the same thing happen when the surgeon did a lumpectomy on the opposite breast 10 years ago to remove calcified ducts that were pre-cancerous. I felt sharp pains occasionally but that’s normal when nerves and tissues grow back together. Same thing when I had 2 knee surgeries a couple of years ago. Using a cold pack when needed seemed to give me some relief.

6 months agoThank you for your replies. I did end up with seromas. Had to have drained 6 times. At 4th drainage, I had a staph infection in seroma, went on antibiotics. At 6th drainage, had have drain out in for a week. Cleared up, now feels like part of it has hardened. Plus at night, my nipple itches like crazy. Nipple is red unlike my other nipple.

6 months agoUpdate. Pain got so bad, Dr ordered mammogram and ultrasound. No cancer. 🙌 Was sent to lymphedema OT therapy. Did find out, that with having seromas and staph infection, this can cause problems. She gave me exercises to do, plus taped around my breast to my back. Suppose to help with lymph drainage. Will return with insurance approval. Also, will see oncology therapist, who will do the massages. Still have some pain but tolerable. 🙏

6 months agoIt is a nerve reaction as to what is happening in your breast. Normal reaction.
