5 months agoI am having lumpectomy July 11 for DCIS small area. How is the recovery time and how painful. Noninvasive. Do you have to take hormones.
Accepted Answer
Recovery from lumpectomy for DCIS typically involves some soreness and limited arm movement for a few days to weeks, with most people returning to normal activities within 1-2 weeks. Hormone therapy decisions vary based on individual factors that an oncologist will discuss based on tumor characteristics and personal risk factors, so it's great that this appointment is coming up to get those specific questions answered.

5 months agoDitto for me. The surgery was no big deal. Over it in days. got a rash from radiation but went away in a week. Taking anastrozole for 5 years. Oncologist says it lowers relative risk of a recurrence or invasive cancer by 40 to 50%. I can manage side effects for that.

5 months agoIt’s cancer In the milk duct it can be noninvasive or can spread. If caught early it is a very treatable cancer

5 months agoDuctal carcinoma in situ. Some consider it a precancer, some consider it a very early, noninvasive cancer. Treatment options vary from”watch and wait” to mastectomy.

4 months agoHi all…I really am grateful to found an amazing surgeon. My lumpectomy is Aug 29. Never had surgery before and she relieved my concerns about scarring…anyone here can share about how they feel about their breasts afterwards? Scarring ok? Etc
Community Member
4 months ago@Carole S. I’m on 20 mg daily no side effects. My husband (a physician) searched for an Italian study on that dose and did not find anything. There was a long study done for women to take 5 mg daily but it’s only for DCIS. I’m have invasive so unfortunately it’s a game changer.

4 months agoI have a scar on the side of my breast from lumpectomy. A short straight line. Clothes, bras, swimsuits cover it. The breast with lumpectomy used to be bigger than the other, now it’s about the same size. No change in the breast shape. There is lumpiness under the scar. Surgeon says it is scar tissue. Seems a little less now and i am almost 1 year post lumpectomy. Mammogram 6 months post op showed only post surgical changes. I really don’t feel different.

4 months ago@Gail G. Had a lumpectomy in April, you can see a small line close to the nipple, but that’s it. I have a friend who had the same procedure and she said she thought hers looked terrible, but within a year she could not see it at all. Best of luck!
