I was diagnosed with IDC on 7/3. Left breast Grade3. I am 71 years old and in poor health, I am simply terrified. I see the oncologist on tomorrow, and I probably won’t sleep tonight.

Feeling terrified before meeting with an oncologist is completely natural, and many people in this community have walked through similar fears and sleepless nights. Tomorrow's appointment will help provide clarity about treatment options and next steps, which often helps reduce some of the overwhelming uncertainty that comes with a new diagnosis. Thank you for your kind response. My surgery is scheduled for August 18th, they have determined that I have Triple Negative Breast Cancer. The good news, we caught it early and it has not spread into ducts. It is very small ( size of a pencil eraser). I am blessed 👼🙏

Does anyone know if insurance pays for reconstructive surgery after lumpectomy/partial mastectomy.

Corliss N - Please call your insurance company, ask to speak with the benefits department about your contract to go over its details which are specific for you.

I believe insurance is required to pay for reconstruction if they pay for mastectomy. Dunno about lumpectomy.

Corliss, It is my understanding that insurance companies now CANNOT deny any reconstruction. It's the law. It's WHCRH 1998, Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act. Also, Medicare and Medicaid may have their own rules. Look into it, do your research, and ask your team. They will also know. I've done a lot of research and have educated myself plenty in the last 4 years. Diagnosed with triple negative myself almost 4 years ago. Recently in March of this year, I was diagnosed again, this time not triple negative. Regardless, it's a cancer diagnosis and I am livid! I was treated very aggressively with chemo and radiation. I wanted a mastectomy and the doctors talked me out of it. Ignorant me, I listened as I was not as educated about cancer as I am now. This time around, my terms, my choice. Everyone is different. We are all different. We may all feel different things with treatment. Just ask questions, do lots of research and you choose. Best of luck
