Hi first I’m here, just had a double mastectomy for IDC on January 29, one invasive ductal carcinoma and two insitu as well as LCIS in both breasts, there were positive margins on one so additional surgery is necessary. I also had a pathology report of perineural invasion and was wondering how much people may know about that.

Perineural invasion occurs when cancer cells are found around nerve fibers, and while it can sound concerning, many people with breast cancer successfully navigate this finding with their medical team. The pathology details from surgery help doctors create the most effective treatment plan moving forward. This community has many members who have faced similar pathology findings and can share their experiences - consider sharing more about what specific information would be most helpful as you process this news.

Does your paperwork say what stage your cancer is in? I have the same one and had a double mastectomy not at the same time. Did you decide on implants or a bra with breast inserts? Did your Dr. want you to have chemo? If you don’t mind what area are you located? Are you aware of the American Cancer Society? They have Nurses that can answer medical questions & they also have a TON of grants that you are eligible for. Let me know if you would like their number. You’re welcome to DM me anytime. It might take me awhile to see it if I am taking care of a friend that has stage 4 Ovarian Cancer.
