How Hard is Breast Cancer Treatment to Get Through?

Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with breast cancer IDC just like 2 weeks ago. I had a lumpectomy, and one of my lymph nodes was positive. It’s hormone positive. The pathology report said grade 2 I don’t know the stage. I’m meeting with an oncologist February 25 I guess to discuss treatment. All to say I’m afraid, of what that looks like…I know everyone is different but how hard is everything to get through? The surgeon said radiation, hormone therapy, and possibly chemo. Just overwhelmed a little bit, and the unknown is difficult to face. I appreciate you all.

The unknown parts of treatment can feel overwhelming, especially when everything is so new and there's still more information to gather. While treatment experiences vary widely from person to person based on many individual factors, many people find that having a clear treatment plan and knowing what to expect helps reduce some of the anxiety. The oncology team will be able to provide specific details about what treatment might look like and help address concerns along the way - this community is also here to offer support and share experiences as the journey unfolds.

Hello Jennifer I was also recently diagnosed and had the same surgery with the same outcome as you have. My appointment with my medical oncologist is March 11, so I’m also in the waiting stage of all of this. If you’d like to pair up and get through this together please let me know. I’m 62, also with IDC with one positive lymph node. Waiting for a medical plan is very hard-I have started walking regularly on my treadmill and am reading scripture from my Bible App daily.

Hi Holly, I’d love to pair up with you. I’m 52 years old, I like reading in the Bible App. I don’t have a treadmill but want to get an exercise bike. I have my first oncology appt this Tuesday the 25th, and a appt with radiation dept on Wednesday the 26th.

Hello JeniferI am Savinia Dudley and I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer hair to positive and I’m on my third round of chemo. I know it’s not a walk apart, but I am grateful that I’m here each day. The chemo is helping me and shrinking my tumor in my breast and in my lymph node and right arm. The most I experience was the diarrhea, constipation and asthma infusions my bones really bad and I’ll take Claritin for that, but it is manageable, but a lot of prayer is manageable.

I have been where you are and yes it is scary. If you can go to a major cancer center with a highly trained team who also are involved in research that will get you the best care. I go to Moffitt. Things are changing all the time. Do not go though this alone… find people who can support you. 😇 Gail

Hello Jennifer, I had a similar diagnosis in December 2024. I had surgery and my oncatype test came back 38 meaning I will need 4 rounds of TC chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapy for 5 yrs. I'm walking by faith and trusting God. Pray and have faith. We're Survivors.

We have almost exactly the same thing. Though I was diagnosed with dcis in September. Insurance mix up then new surgeon who wouldn’t schedule appointment until I has MRI- radiologist came in immediately and said it was life saving. I had 2nd biopsy next day. Tumor at surgery 2 weeks ago was 1 inch. I don’t understand how they missed it. I was told it was hematoma from biopsy.

Jennifer, my 2nd treatment is Friday. The 1st one went well. The 4th day after treatment was the worst but by day 8 or 9 I was back to my old self. My nurse told me to stay super hydrated, protein shakes helped with nourishment. I never lost my appetite, thank God and my hair is shedding a bit. I'm taking photos and keeping a log of my journey because this test will be my testimony once everything is over. I have a ways to go but I'm thankful and grateful thus far. God answers prayers. He's so good.
