I was diagnosed with triple negative stage 1a invasive ductal carcinoma. I had a lumpectomy on August 3rd and 3 lymph nodes removed. All my margins are clear and lymph nodes negative. The tumor was very small 6 mm. Dr. Is saying that treatment is radiation and chemo. I don’t understand why I need so much treatment when everything is gone. I’m definitely going for a second opinion but has anyone with this type of cancer not gotten the chemotherapy.? I realize we are all different but this seems one treatment fits all for trip negative

Getting a second opinion is a smart approach when facing treatment decisions. Many people in this community have navigated similar questions about chemotherapy for early-stage triple negative breast cancer, and treatment plans can vary based on many individual factors that only doctors can fully evaluate. Consider bringing a list of specific questions to your second opinion appointment, and this community can be a great place to connect with others who have been through similar experiences and decisions.

Hi Beth I do understand how you feel about radiation and chemo. I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma 2 o'clock right breast on November 13, 2024. After my lumpectomy on April 30, 2024, tumor was successfully removed and margins negative for cancer, 2 lymph nodes removed negative for cancer. Er+, Pr+, Her2-. My tumor was sent to Exact Sciences for Oncotype DX Recurrence Score. Was your tumor sent for Oncotype DX recurrence Score? My score 30 and greater than 15% chemo benefit. My surgical oncologist referred me to a medical oncologist on July 11, 2024. I had my first drugs, Taxotere (docetaxel) and Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan chemotherary treatment, 4 cycles, every 21 days. Also, have a appointment with my new radiologist oncologist on September 30, 2024 to discuss radiation treatments

Hi Paulette. Thanks for the information. My tumor has not been sent to Exact science. I will look into that. That’s a really good thing to know.
