a year agoHey all, newly diagnosed as stage 4 and Iโm 37 a single mom of 3 daughters and scared out of my mind. This started Aug 12 that I was a stage 2 but after mri, ct and a bone scan it revealed more. My mind is swirling with so many unknowns! I was briefly told no cure, hormone treatment first but I have no idea what any of this means. Meeting with oncologist tomorrow to hear everything. Thanks for listening

6 months agoStage 4 cancer is often seen now as a chronic disease. There may not be a cure but the cancer is manageable for many years. Please take someone with you to the oncologist for a second set of ears and to take notes. Stay strong and be positive.

6 months agoSo yeah lots been going on- Dr said itโs not just stage 4, but stage 4 metastatic ( lungs, sternum, spine, pelvis, femur , both breast) all that can be done is to put me on hormone blockers (early menopause) and hope to slow the progression.. and here I didnโt think could get any worse! Iโm keeping my faith as best I can- hope to start something soon to ease pain

6 months agoSame here, newly diagnosed stage 4 Mets to back, spine, ribs, and chest. Oncologist immediately told me many many women are living long with this diagnosis (this is indeed treated at a chronic disease). Just started on meds (Letrozole and Kisqali), possible bone strengthening med in future. *This is such a great group of women who connect ,uplift, share, and cheer us on. Itโs ok to be scared, but fight scared!!!! Read to educate yourself, exercise, and keep your mind strong. You got this ๐๐ผ

6 months ago@Pamela J - how much trouble did you go through getting the kisqali? Iโm going through so many hoops
Community Member
6 months ago@Alexandria C- Yes! I have a great oncologist who assigned a nurse navigator to help me. My hospital mentioned giving me samples to try while they worked with my insurance. Finally, they got approved after about 3 weeks. (Kisqali is insanely expensive ๐ณ!) *Also, ask your oncologist can she help you with trial samples while you are navigating through all of this??๐

6 months ago@Pamela J - I will definitely ask!! I start first injections today Friday Sept 13th, of the lupron and xgeva. Very nervous found out by a few others that they are going pretty aggressive with the hormone blockers! Most go through some form of chemo or radiation or surgery mine said not an option l! Iโm so scared on how Iโm going to react to medication as I normally have bad reactions to medication bcuz they donโt work!! Every possible side effect I normally get with medications so not looking forward to it! But I have my daughters ( 10,13,17) as my push to get better and not let the thought of 10 year deadline get to me
