a year agoI’m 50 and was diagnosed 8/16/24 with invasive mammary cancer er+ PR+, stage 1A early. I have extensive fibrocystic mastopathy and strongly encouraged to have mastectomy. As my oncologist said your breast tissue light up like a Christmas tree on imaging and it’s very risky. my mom is a 5 year survivor dx DCIS 2019 and opted for bilateral mastectomy and cancer free. I’ve opted for a mastectomy with reconstruction following will have hormone therapy- I’m perimenopause. I’m very fortunate and blessed with oncologist for having me screen every six months. The U/S picked up the mass that was not there 6 months prior on MRI. Blessings and positive vibes to everyone as we share our journeys. My surgery is 10/1/24

Thank you for sharing this milestone in your journey and for the thoughtful way you're approaching such important decisions. Having a proactive oncology team that caught this early, combined with your family history knowledge, shows the power of careful monitoring and screening. The path ahead with surgery and treatment can feel overwhelming, but connecting with others in this community who understand the experience can provide valuable support and insights. Wishing you strength as your surgery date approaches, and hoping others here can share encouragement from their own experiences.
