How do you cope with depression and fear while waiting for breast cancer surgery...

I was diagnosed with Invasive Pleomorphic Lobular Carsinoma on September 26th. I've completed all of the preliminary tests and initial meetings with my care team, and I am waiting for my surgery date. I've decided on a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I'm frightened and having issues controlling my chronic depression. I had open heart surgery for two valve repairs last year, and this is messing with my emotions more than that ever did.

The waiting period between diagnosis and surgery can feel overwhelming, and it's completely understandable that emotions feel more intense right now than with previous medical experiences. Many people in this community find that connecting with others who understand this specific journey, practicing gentle self-care activities, and staying in touch with mental health support can help manage both the fear and depression during this challenging time. Consider reaching out to your care team about resources for emotional support, as they often have counselors or support groups specifically for patients navigating breast cancer treatment.
