Recovery time after colon surgery varies for each person, but it's completely normal to still experience pain several weeks after your procedure. Pain typically decreases gradually over the first few months, and discussing effective pain management options with your medical team can help ensure you're as comfortable as possible before starting your next phase of treatment.

Hi. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in mid April but was too weak and dehydrated because I had a blockage in the colon and had lost 15 pounds over the past several months do to black diarrhea. I thought I had IBS. So my first surgery in April was an ileostomy bag so I could eat and bypass the colon mass. Then on June 11, I had the colon cancer surgery and ileostomy bag reversal operation. They found 2 of 44 lymph nodes with cancer. I just started my chemo on Monday. Are you in pain from your stitches? Are you washing them every day? Are they red or infected? Are you in pain due to bowel movement/symptoms? Ask your oncologist or surgeon about that. Hope things improve quickly for you.

I couldn't bend over comfortably for 3 or 4 weeks. Don't lift anything heavy. Take lots of naps. Surgery is a big thing.
