How do I tell my family about my colon cancer diagnosis?
Community Member
I just got told today that I have a golf ball size tumor in my right side of my colon. Also have lymph nodes involved in the lungs and peritoneal area on CAT scan. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy either this Friday or next Tuesday to get a biopsy. They're already talking about a chemo port being put in. I was also told the tumor isn't through the colon wall and is still encapsulated so I'm not sure how there's metastasis. Haven't told anyone yet and I'm scared to tell them. My 42 year old daughter is 7 years in remission from bladder cancer from her job as a firefighter. She received a neo bladder after they removed her blader and left kidney and ureter. She's now doing amazing. I'm afraid to scare her and my younger son because their older brother was murdered in 2001 and I know they're going to freak out thinking I'm going to die. Not sure what to do yet. I don't think I want to have surgery and/or chemo but we'll see.
What chemo treatments helped other stage 3 colon cancer patients?
I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in the sigmoid colon. I had surgery to remove that section of colon with tumor. I have to start chemo Monday for 6 months. Can anyone share what type of treatment you’re on and how you’re coping with it.
What should I expect from colon cancer surgery and chemo treatment?
I was diagnosed with colon cancer about 2 weeks ago. I had CT scans done on Friday and fortunately I do not have any other places other than a lymph node that is pretty enlarged pretty close to the tumor. So I’m looking at surgery then possibly some chemo. This is pretty scary all I can do is go day by day. I’m interested your experiences with the surgery and chemo. Sheila
How do you cope when colon cancer keeps spreading to new organs?
My heart goes out to each and everyone of you. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2022. I had my first surgery in August 2022 after being misdiagnosed. My second surgery in 2023 because the cancer metastasize from my colon to my liver. June 2, 2025 I had my third surgery because the cancer metastasized to my right lung.
Has anyone else dealt with colon cancer that spread to the liver?

How do I find an oncologist after a colon cancer diagnosis?
I was diagnosed last week after a biopsy during my colonoscopy was positive. I am having an MRI today which should give me more info. My PCP is not being helpful in locating an oncologist for me and has suggested I search as well. I’m feeling anxious and overwhelmed with the whole situation. Fortunately my adult daughter is a wonderful support.
