Coping with a Possible Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis

Hi Gina, I too have stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. It’s a hard pill to swallow at first. Kind of like, surely they looked at someone else’s CT exam. But, I immediately thought I can beat this and you can do. Having a positive attitude has helped me through this. I had 4 rounds of chemo and my surgery is Aug 14th (can’t come soon enough) and then 2 more rounds of therapy. I’m ready to be done!! Going to eat healthy and exercise a lot. Hope that will help with reoccurrence. If anyone else is reading this, are you taking supplements? Gina, I pray your operation will be successful!! 🙏💪🏻

Hi Gina I too have stage 3c primary periteneal cancer (ovarian ) ive had 4 rounds of chemo and had surgery Aug 6th. (Surgeon says he got it all) now im suppose to have 2 more rounds of chemo starting next week to do the clean up. I'll just say its been a ride. Rest as much as you can.take any nausea and pain meds round the clock being (proactive rather than reactive) you can get thru this..we are all here for you if you need us. God blesssl you.

Hi all I just saw these. Thank you for the support. Had debulking on August 6. Very rough ride. He could not get everything. Chemo is being arranged to try to get the rest. Have my pathology appt today. We know it started in the fallopean tube. All female stuff and omentum have been removed. Now anxiously awaiting the chemo journey and what’s next.

I haven’t seen anyone mention their age in these comments. I am I my late 70's and diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer...I am wondering if it's even worth all the chemo treatments, surgery and CT scans at my age.

I’m 65 and have stage 3C I was having chemo Next to a lovely lady Who is 91. You still have a Lot to live for. As long as chemo doesn’t make you terribly sick, I’d do it. Good luck to you 🙏

I was 80 at time of diagnosis. Had three rounds of chemo, surgery, and then three more chemo. I have been clear for 1-1/2 years. My birthday end of this week I will be 82 and still going strong. I was lucky, chemo did not bother me except for being very tired. So, now I am on my way to the gently gym. Everyone hang in there. Fear will undo whatever progress you.make.

I too have stage IIIb high grade serious carcinoma. Had a complete hysterectomy. .will start chemo in a couple of weeks. What can I expect for side effects?

Hi Deb, I have the exact same diagnosis. Chemo was not bad, for me. I had a few days that I didn’t feel well, and they were always days 3-6. Some pain, feeling blah and tired. I always laid low on those days. Other than being fatigued, I did really well. I had 4 rounds of chemo, then surgery, then 2 additional rounds of chemo. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!!

Kathy Congrats on being done! You make it sound like a piece of cake and I hope that is how my treatments work out. No neuropathy issues?

Ugh. This is so scary..my mom was just diagnosed..not sure what stage..but she is 73.and very petite..there are suggesting 3-6 rounds of chemo before hysterectomy. And then a few more after..im afraid this will deteriorate her..im thinking of her getting treated holistically..but getting surgery asap..I will do whatever I can to save mother

Hi Deb, well not a piece of cake, but Chemo was just not that bad to me. How is chemo going for you? I take lynparza now for maintenance. This drug has given me more problems than chemo did. I don’t like it. If it works, then I’ll put up with it. Hope you’re doing ok.

Chemo is going ok...dealing with leg pain now. I have had 2 treatments so far. What are you experiencing on the maintenance drug?

Does your leg pain hurt for a couple of days after chemo, or all the time? Lynparza, makes you feel nauseous and lots of fatigue. I take Zofran for the nausea. You just don’t feel like yourself, and your stomach just doesn’t feel right. But, if it’s working, I’ll keep taking it. 😊

Yes, leg pain usually starts Day 4 after chemo. I take Claritin the day b4 and 7 days after. It's usually my knees, I had restless legs going into this and think chemo makes it worse. My knees ache and are jumpy. My oncologist did prescribe a painkiller and that has helped. When did you finish your chemo treatments? I've had 2 of 6 so far and this time it is taking longer to get over. My blood counts have tanked so will need an injection soon to deal with that. So, maybe it's the Nplate injection that is hurting my knees more so than the chemo...who knows!

Just diagnosed, probably stage 3 or 4. My Dr. decided best to skip exploratory/debulking and go straight to hystorectomy. My CA-125 was very high but my CT scan didn't seem to show spread beyond ovaries and uterous. I haven't started treatment yet. Will talk to Dr. Today about options. I'm wondering about HIPEC. It sounds like it's intense but has good results. I'll let you know what we decide.
