Me: 65, no symptoms, but rising PSA and family history of prostate cancer (brother under Active Surveillance for two years now). History as follows; - MRI showed area of concern. - Transperineal biopsy confirms cancer in one place. - Gleason score of 3+4 =7 - Sent biopsy to Decipher for genetic analysis. Dr. has received results, I have an appt. in two weeks to hear results and discuss next steps.

Waiting for test results can feel overwhelming, especially when facing important treatment decisions ahead. Having that family connection and your brother's experience with active surveillance may provide some helpful perspective as you navigate this journey. This community is filled with people who understand exactly what you're going through, and many have faced similar decisions after their diagnosis - their experiences and insights could be valuable as you prepare for your upcoming appointment with your doctor.

Most interested in the genetic analysis and how it works into treatment. I have been diagnosed for 6 years My last PSA, two weeks ago was 7. The recent biopsy resulted in differential diagnosis of "favorable intermediate". I am an 81 year old male, and so far I am experiencing no symptoms. Naturally, I take flowmax but only 2 or 3 times a week.

I was under surveillance for two years for rising PSA reached 10. First MRI two years ago revealed a couple of growths. Dr. told me come back in 3 months. Sought second opinion who recommended biopsy. Turns out to be an “aggressive cancer.” I wonder if waiting was the right move now. Good luck!

Jonathan, did you get a PI-RADS score from your MRI?

Just received my Decipher score for the genetic analysis. Score runs from 0-1. My score came back a .84 which changed my diagnosis from “favorable intermediate” to “unfavorable intermediate”. Next step is to meet with urologist on the surgical option.

Glad you are keeping an eye on it, Gerald. My decipher score was similar—although I’ll have to look it up. Met with radiation oncologist last week. Meet with surgeon this week, then decide on treatment.

My Decipher was 0.52, so past halfway on the scale.

I have scheduled surgery for Nov. 10th after a bunch of family events and some long-planned travel. Dr.s say it’s fine to wait until then. It makes me nervous, but all of my options have risks. If I were older than 65 I’d opt for the Brachy Therapy radiation, but I’m likely to live long enough to experience the eventual side effects. Even active surveillance has risks. So I’m “young” enough and healthy enough with no symptoms except rising PSA, so I’m hoping to recover well from the surgery and know the prostate cancer is likely cured.
