How many of you feel that since becoming Stage 4, your other drs don't seem to take you as seriously as before? I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle with my eye Dr. and my PCP.

Many patients with advanced diagnoses report experiencing changes in how healthcare providers interact with them, and this feeling is unfortunately more common than it should be. Healthcare professionals should maintain the same level of respect and attention to all health concerns regardless of cancer stage, as quality of life and comprehensive care remain important throughout treatment. Consider advocating for yourself by clearly communicating your concerns and expectations, and don't hesitate to seek second opinions if you feel your care isn't meeting your needs.

I absolutely feel that way. I feel like my oncologist thinks I should understand all the tests and know how to handle ever situation. It's getting to the point where I don't want to see him at all.

To update my original comment. I saw the PA at my PCP office today. I am having knee surgery. She was rather upset that my primary PCP had taken a wait and see approach to my blood pressure for the past year. She adjusted my meds and asked me to email my daily blood pressure to her weekly. I am having surgery in January, so I changed my appointment to April for follow-up with the PCP it was in 2 weeks. We agreed that if he continued to want to wait and see, I could return to her for follow-up. It has been up in the high 150, low 160 that I have become concerned about a stroke or heart attack complicating things even more. Stage 4 cancer is enough.

I feel as though my PCP doesn’t want to do anything that might conflict with my oncology treatment. My eye doctor as well prefers not to do anything since I have cancer tumors around my eyes. I’ve stopped wasting my time with them. Sticking only with the specialists.

I am fortunate. I have had multiple respiratory infections, hives and even pink eye. All in the last 4 months. My PCP has been my guardian angel. He has treated me with diligence and respect every time I have dragged myself to his office. He always takes me seriously and I usually feel better after I start treatment.
