2 years agoI recently changed cancer centers. My new facility is much more organized and efficient. I was offered an appointment to talk with a clinical social worker who specializes in cancer care. Today was my intake visit, and the one thing she wanted to talk about was cancer and anxiety. Something she talked about with me was treatment and tumor burden. No one has ever talked about it. Because my cancer was in only one location and responded quickly to meds, I am considered to have a low tumor burden. If I have any cancer in my body, it is probably microscopic. Have any of you had this discussion with your Dr. or medical team?

It's wonderful that your new cancer center is providing such comprehensive support, including access to a clinical social worker who specializes in cancer care. Many patients find that tumor burden discussions can be incredibly helpful for understanding their treatment journey and managing anxiety, though it's not always a standard part of care conversations. This kind of open communication about your specific situation - having cancer in one location that responded well to treatment - can provide valuable perspective and peace of mind as you move forward with your care.
