What supportive care services helped you most during cancer treatment?

I'm learning about supportive care and how it can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life during cancer treatment. From what I understand, supportive care focuses on things like managing pain or nausea, providing emotional support, and helping coordinate care between different doctors. It sounds like it can be used alongside cancer treatment or on its own at any stage. I'd love to hear from others who have experience with supportive care services during their cancer journey. • What types of supportive care have been most helpful for you day to day? • What do you wish you had known about supportive care options earlier in your treatment?

Thank you for bringing up such an important topic that many in this community can relate to. Supportive care services can make a significant difference in managing both the physical and emotional challenges that come with cancer treatment. Many community members have found value in services like pain management, nutrition counseling, social work support, and palliative care teams that help coordinate care between different specialists. It would be wonderful to hear from others about which supportive care services have been most helpful in their daily lives and what they wish they had discovered earlier in their journey.

I've been on supportive care for several years. She helps me with all the annoying side effects like gut health, thyroid, social worker, diet, pain and sleep. She informs my PCP and oncologist of any changes. I can text her any questions and she answers me quickly.

Virginia M who do you talk to to get started? I could have used one the past couple of weeks. My WBC were down to 2.09 and my neutrophils were 0.59. So they stopped my treatment just had them drawn today WBC2.34 And neutrophil was .96. They tol me to start back on the Ibrance. This is still my first round of treatment, what did you ladies get started on for your second round? We will see what happens next. God bless you all!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️

I was diagnosed stage 4 MBC fifteen months ago. Our hospital oncology group offers a coping with cancer group lead by a social worker, personal LCW counseling, a nutrition specialist, palliative care specialist and nurse navigators. It may depend on the size of your facility which of these are available in your area. Ask questions, often the nurses can guide you to these services, all of which are provided free of charge in many cases.

Lynette, my oncologist referred me about 4 years ago. The supportive care PA knows a lot about BC. I'm at a large teaching university health care system. But, all I have to do is send my PCP a message and she gets back to me. I hope it is available to you.
