What to Expect After Switching to Herceptin and Perjeta Only

I have my final round of THP (taxotere, herceptin and perjeta) on the first and then move on the just HP (herceptin and perjeta) 3 weeks later. Entering the “wait and see” era of diagnosis. I’m at a near complete response as of last scans just a few weeks ago. Any idea what to expect side effect-wise when moving down to just the 2 drugs? They tell me it should be better. But what does better mean? Is my hair coming back? Are my nails going to stop hurting? Do I get to sleep thru the night? What has been your experience planning life around treatment long term?

Moving from a three-drug regimen to just the targeted therapies often brings welcome relief from many of the more challenging side effects. Many patients find that fatigue improves, sleep patterns return to more normal rhythms, and issues like nail pain and hair loss typically begin to resolve once the chemotherapy component is removed from treatment. It's completely natural to have questions about this transition period - the shift from active treatment to maintenance therapy brings both hope and uncertainty. Others in this community have navigated similar changes and may have valuable insights to share about their experiences with long-term treatment planning.

I am two years into my diagnosis. I am now taking Verzenio and exemestane. My hair is growing back although I have some frizzy parts but it is getting thicker. Sometimes I have diarrhea and I have fatigue at times. All in all I think my life is much better now than while in treatment. I do have secondary bone cancer and nodules in my lung on the side I had radiation. My last PET SCAN showed no new growth or active cancer. Praying you have a complete recovery.

I’ve been on Phesgo for about 3 years. It’s the 5 minute injection of Herceptin and Perjeta. This quick shot in the thigh is better for me than the 2 hour or so infusion of each drug.
